WORTH NOTING ON TV

* SUNDAY

NBA All-Star Game (NBC, 6-9 p.m. EST): The best players of the East face the best of the West in the 45th edition of this annual contest. Big names will be there: Charles Barkley, Shaquille O'Neal, Scottie Pippen, Hakeem Olajuwon (of the defending NBA Champion Houston Rockets). But some newcomers will also play, such as Detroit Pistons' rookie Grant Hill, the Orlando Magic's Anfernee Hardaway, and the Seattle SuperSonics' Gary Payton.

A Walton Wedding (CBS, 9-11 p.m.): It didn't happen during the nine years the TV series was airing, but John-Boy is getting married. Played by Richard Thomas, he was the eldest son in ``The Waltons,'' the well-loved and prize-winning CBS series that ran from 1972 through 1981.

The family lived on Walton's Mountain in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia during the Depression and through World War II. By the time the series ended, he had left for New York. Viewers caught up with him in a 1993 special, ``A Walton Thanksgiving,'' which found John-Boy a writer and - what else? - television commentator in New York.

This time John-Boy has met and won the daughter of a United States ambassador, whose sophisticated family does find something in common with the rural Waltons. But there are also some troubles during the wedding preparations depicted in this ``CBS Sunday Movie.''

John-Boy is played by Thomas; Michael Learned and Ralph Waite recreate their roles as his mother and father; and some other original cast members also return. * MONDAY

Sister Act (NBC, 9-11 p.m.): This 1992 theatrical release gives Whoopi Goldberg fans a chance to see the Oscar-winning actress in a featherweight farce about a nightclub singer who has to flee the mob and ends up posing as a nun in a convent.

Maggie Smith (another Oscar-winner), Harvey Keitel, Mary Wickes, Bill Nunn, and Kathy Najimy also star. Please check local listings for these programs.
