A Balancing Act: Christianity in Movies

Regarding the opinion-page article "Another Hollywood Excess: Anti-Christian Imagery," May 6: Some movies do attempt to portray Christians (and Christianity) in an impartial and sensitive way. In the recent movie, "Dead Man Walking," actress Susan Sarandon plays a Roman Catholic nun who counsels a prison inmate facing the death penalty. Her character is portrayed with seriousness and respect, and one hopes that the success of this movie will encourage producers to have a more balanced and realistic attitude toward contemporary Christianity.
