Woodward and Bernstein Are Still 'On the Beat'

Whatever happened to Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein?

In 1972, Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein uncovered evidence that top White House aides financed and instigated a "dirty tricks" operations against President Richard Nixon's political opponents.

Their investigative journalism was central in exposing the Watergate scandal that eventually toppled Mr. Nixon. The Post won a Pulitzer Prize for its coverage.

Today, both men are still journalists.

Mr. Bernstein is a contributing editor for Vanity Fair magazine. He has also been a Washington bureau chief and senior correspondent for ABC's "Nightline." He has published articles in Time magazine and is often consulted as a news analyst. In 1996, he wrote an international bestseller, "His Holiness," about Pope John Paul II.

Mr. Woodward is currently the assistant managing editor of The Washington Post. He has written seven best-selling, nonfiction books, three of which have been made into movies. His most recent book, "The Choice," is about the 1996 presidential campaign. He is also working on another book about the presidency after Watergate.

Since it seems Woodward has done it all, he says his kids help keep his life as thrilling as uncovering Watergate.

"I have a daughter who is 21 graduating from Berkeley and a 21-month-old who keeps you moving, and that makes life very exciting!"
