TV report on the Web

Sounding a call that has been a hallmark of her career in children's television, Peggy Charren, now a visiting scholar at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass., points out that TV has become a powerful socializing tool. Parental and community involvement is more important than ever. A common refrain facing advocates of the FCC requirements is lack of awareness by parents. New York's Center for Media Education maintains a Web site (www.cme.org/cme) with a report card that parents can fill out and e-mail to the FCC with their opinions. The 1998 children's television report, issued by the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania, can be found at www.asc.upenn.edu
