Poems and prayers

A prayer becomes a poem

while cathedral bells

learn to swing from boys

who leap and fall

on each long rope that draws

in thundering melody.

Boys' laughs are lost in jaws

of bells. Such Sunday spree

all spires and gargoyles share.

When boys' leaps make hearts ring

a poem becomes a prayer.
