Making moves easier on children

Each year, about 6 million children across America move into new neighborhoods. Here are some tips to help smooth the move for them:

*Prepare a special box for each child containing some clothing and their favorite toys. Help the child decorate the box and ask movers to load the box last and unload it first.

*At the new home, set up the kids' rooms first to give them a place to relax or play as belongings are unloaded. Allow them to help decide how their rooms will be arranged.

*Take a short family walk to explore the neighborhood. This is a great way to meet potential playmates.

*Send some mail to your children at the new address so it will be waiting for them when you move in.
