Tennis player Gabriela Sabatini

When Gabriela Sabatini retired from tennis in 1996, at the age of 26, millions of fans mourned the loss of glamorous "Gaby" from the tennis scene.

Though she only won one grand slam event (the US Open in 1990), the Argentine was ranked as the world's No. 3 women's player for several years. She amassed 27 singles titles and earned a loyal following. Fans admired her for her style and beauty as much as her skill on the court. People magazine named her one of its "50 most beautiful people" in 1992.

Since her retirement, Ms. Sabatini has focused largely on marketing. She has launched seven fragrances since putting out "Gabriela Sabatini" in 1989. She also promotes her own lines of clothing, home linens, and watches.

Sabatini divides her time between Buenos Aires and Key Biscayne, Fla., where she enjoys jogging and working out. Last year she ran a half-marathon in Buenos Aires.

She occasionally participates in exhibition tennis matches. In February she played (and lost to) Anna Kournikova, a Russian tennis star who often elicits comparisons with Sabatini. An exhibition match with long-time rival Steffi Graf was canceled.

Die-hard fans still keep close tabs on Sabatini. A Web ring at www.bomis.com/rings/sabatini includes 29 sites. On message boards, fans discuss everything from whether Gaby should start a singing career (a widespread rumor) to which of her fragrances they like best.

Do you suddenly wonder, hey -'Whatever happened to...?'
