Web Smarts

knowledgeloom.org

WHAT: This site, designed for educators, provides a wealth of resources on teaching strategies and methods.

BEST POINTS: The "spotlight" section looks in depth at specific teaching issues. Currently, early literacy and professional development are highlighted. Upcoming spotlight topics include math, families and schools, and technology. The site examines research-based teaching practices; gives examples of schools using these practices; provides a wealth of related links, articles, and resources; and has an ongoing panel discussion with experts for the topic in the spotlight.

Educators can also search "the collection," a growing database of resources and links on topics such as safe schools, adult learning, educational equity, and family involvement.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: The Web site was started with a grant from the Department of Education and is maintained by the Northeast and Islands Regional Educational Laboratory at Brown University. Although all information on the site is available to anyone, registered members can post messages, add content, ask questions, and receive periodic updates.
