Church board names a new director

The Christian Science Board of Directors has elected Mary Metzner Trammell of Boston as a member of the board, commencing July 18. She succeeds Paul D. Grimes.

Mr. Grimes has resigned and will return to the full-time public practice of Christian Science healing and teaching. In announcing his resignation, board chairman Virginia S. Harris said his "keen insights and natural abilities as a communicator have added much to the healing impact" of the church's religious publications.

The Christian Science Board of Directors is the five-member, self-perpetuating governing body that transacts the business of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, Boston, which publishes this newspaper.

As a member of the board, Dr. Trammell will continue her role as editor of the church's religious publications, The Christian Science Journal, Christian Science Sentinel, and The Herald of Christian Science.

"Mary's inspiration and love of writing have brought new poise and strength to our magazines and to the editors, designers, and artists who help produce them - as well as to the authors who write for them," said Mrs. Harris.

Trammell, co-author of "The Reforming Power of the Scriptures," came to work at The Mother Church in 1991 from Miami. Dr. Trammell taught at the University of Miami and at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton before coming to Boston to serve The Mother Church as historian. She became associate editor of the religious periodicals in 1992, and was appointed editor in June 2000. She and her husband, Talbot, have two grown children and four grandchildren.
