How old is your chocolate?

While savoring a candy bar, have you ever wondered about the origins of the tasty treat? Well, according to this week's Nature, people have been enjoying chocolate in some form for about 2,600 years. Researchers at Hershey Foods in Hershey, Pa., found cocoa residue on ceramic, teapot-style vessels dating from that time. By the 16th century Spanish Conquest, Nature reports, Mayans used cocoa in a variety of dishes, perhaps consuming some at every meal.

State election officials in Florida rejected would-be House candidate Percy. Their reason? "He's a canine, and therefore not a qualified elector." Wayne Genthner had registered his border collie mix as a protest, under the slogan: "Never made a mess in the House! Never will!" With Percy out, Genthner says he'll run, as a write-in candidate.

Tiger Woods is heavily favored at this week's British Open at Muirfield in Gullane, Scotland, where he's pursuing the third leg of a Grand Slam. For aficionados, Condé Nast Traveler has released a list of the world's best golf resorts. The magazine asked 4,000 readers to rate 285 international courses on course design, accommodations, speed of play, and other amenities. Condé Nast's 10 best and their scores, on a 100-point scale:
