BAGGAGE CLAIM

In Calgary, Alberta, police have an unusual case on their hands – literally. As we pick up the story, a man has paid less than $1 at auction for a piece of used carry-on luggage, only to find it was still packed ... with cocaine. Street value: $180,000. The shaken buyer quickly turned in the item and its contents, one of the largest such hauls in the city's history. Now the hunt is on for whoever abandoned it as well as for the original owner. "It would be nice if they phoned and said, 'Hey, that's mine,'" a narcotics squad source said. "But that's not likely to happen."

THAT WOULD SEEM TO FOLLOW

A headline noticed in Tuesday's Straits Times, the leading daily newspaper in Singapore: "One in four Malaysians is overweight from overeating."

Don't drink alcohol? You'd be at ease at these US colleges

Brigham Young University, which is affiliated with the teetotaling Mormon Church, ranks No. 1 in the Princeton Review's 2003 list of "Stone-Cold Sober" colleges. Conversely, the publication, whose annual ranking of schools in 63 categories is issued each August, drew extra attention to itself this week when the American Medical Association blasted it for also listing the top "party schools." That, said the AMA, "fuels the false notion that alcohol is central to the college experience." The top 10 schools rated as the most sober:

1. Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah

2. Wheaton College, Wheaton, Ill.

3. US Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo.

4. US Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md.

5. US Coast Guard Academy, New London, Conn.

6. Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, New York, NY

7. California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, Calif.

8. US Military Academy, West Point, N.Y.

9. Centenary College, Shreveport, La.

10. Haverford College, Haverford, Pa.
