Been there, done that
Staff writer Gloria Goodale traveled to Seattle.
Where did you go?
Seattle, Wash., during one of the few glorious, summer weekends on which there was neither rain nor fog. (Unfortunately, not something one can schedule.)
Where did you stay?
At the W Hotel, right in the heart of downtown, just up the hill from the Seattle Symphony, the Seattle Art Museum, and the piers.
Where did you do?
Browsed the exceptional Asian and Pacific Northwest mask and artifact collections at the Seattle Art Museum; snacked and shopped through Pike Place Market, the lively, waterfront marketplace; rode the elevated monorail across town to Seattle Center; and went up to the top of the Space Needle to check out the panoramic view of the city, including a rare, clear look at Mount Rainier. Ventured into the city's oddest attraction, the Underground Tour of Pioneer Square – a subterranean glimpse of 19th-century Seattle.
Where did you eat?
Lots of seafood, from the thick clam chowder at the Bay View Café inside Pike Place to the tuna tartare and breaded sole at the trendy Earth and Ocean Restaurant. Checked out the national coffeeshop chains to see if they are any different in their hometown. They aren't.
