Banned Books Week: Why these 10 classics got kicked out of class

Is this is a roundup of objectionable literature – or a Great Books roster? The same titles that some call great literature others find to be filthy, bad, or dangerous. 1. The Catcher in the Rye

J.D. Salinger's classic coming-of-age story "The Catcher in the Rye" was removed by a school in Summerville, S.C., in 2001 because it "is a filthy, filthy book."
