5 fiction finalists for the 2011 National Book Award

The 2011 National Book Award fiction winner will be announced on Nov. 16. Which of these five novels will be the winner?

1. "The Sojourn," by Andrew Krivak

A sniper's dreams of glory collide with the terrible reality of combat in this novel by Andrew Krivak about an Austrian immigrant who leaves poverty in America for the battlefields of Europe during World War I. Critic David Abrams wrote that "in terms of the power of its prose, ["The Sojourn"] deserves to be placed on the same shelf as Remarque, Hemingway, and Heller."
