Rice's new novel, 'Prince Lestat,' will be another entry in her popular 'Vampire Chronicles' series.
Author Anne Rice will be bringing her vampire protagonist Lestat back for a new novel which will be released this October.
The book, titled “Prince Lestat,” will be the first book Rice has added to her Vampire Chronicles series since her book “Blood Canticle” was released in 2003.
The main “Chronicles” series consists of 10 books so far.
“It was such a relief and such a pleasure, at last, to be able to speak about the up-and-coming novel, which I finished some time ago,” the author wrote on Facebook. She has discussed the new book on an Internet program hosted by her son Christopher Rice called “The Dinner Party” as well as at a sales conference, according to publisher Knopf.
“It is a big vampire chronicle," she said of the new book on “Dinner.” "It's all about Lestat and all about the vampires and what they're doing right now. How they're coming to terms with everything that's happened to them, and how Lestat is dealing with demands from all sides that he step forward and become some sort of leader of the tribe.”
“Prince” will be released on Oct. 28 by Knopf.
Rice was initially not impressed with the choice of Cruise, telling Movieline that "the Tom Cruise casting is so bizarre, it's almost impossible to imagine how it's going to work." However, she later apparently changed her mind, saying that when she saw the movie, "Tom was Lestat for me."
The movie received mixed reviews and currently holds a score of 59 out of 100 on the review aggregator site Metacritic.
The "Interview" film was followed by an adaptation of another of Rice’s novels, “Queen of the Damned,” which starred Aaliyah and was released in 2002.
Rice’s stories were also adapted into a Broadway musical titled “Lestat,” which featured a score by musician Elton John and Bernie Taupin. It opened in 2006 and closed a little less than a month later.
