A trailer has been released for the upcoming movie, “Mr. Holmes.”

“X-Men: Days of Future Past” actor Ian McKellen portrays the famous detective in the new movie, which finds Sherlock retired. He tends bees as described in author Arthur Conan Doyle’s original stories and appears to be having problems with his memory – the trailer shows him writing the name of his housekeeper’s son, with whom he is close, on his shirtsleeve so as not to forget it.

The film co-stars actress Laura Linney and Milo Parker as well as actors Hattie Morahan, Patrick Kennedy, and Hiroyuki Sanada. Colin Starkey of “Broadside” takes on the role of Holmes’ best friend, John Watson.

The director of the movie, Bill Condon, has previously been behind such films as “The Fifth Estate,” “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” and “Part 2,” and “Dreamgirls.”

Sherlock Holmes has, of course, been everywhere on big and small screens within the last several years – “The Judge” actor Robert Downey Jr. portrayed the detective, with actor Jude Law as his sidekick Watson, in the 2009 movie “Sherlock Holmes” and the 2011 sequel “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,” while actor Benedict Cumberbatch took on the role for the BBC TV series, which is still running, with “Fargo” actor Martin Freeman as Watson. Meanwhile, CBS’s “Elementary,” which is currently airing its third season, has actor Jonny Lee Miller portraying Sherlock and, in a twist, actress Lucy Liu as Joan Watson.

“Mr. Holmes” is scheduled to be released in June in the UK and according to the website IndieWire, the film will be released in the US sometime later this year.
