Similac recall: Abbott updates baby formula recall list

Abbott Laboratories has updated its Similac recall list, which could cause parents to once again comb through an exhaustive list of recalled formula.
The new list appears to include only one new item: a 22-ounce container of Go & Grow Milk Early Shield Powder (lot no. 93773T20) that was not on the original.
Abbott originally released its recall list of more than 2,000 lot numbers on Sept. 23 after its internal testing found beetle parts in a very small proportion of the samples it tested.
The Similac recall involves some 5 million containers of powdered (not liquid) formula, including all rectangular plastic tubs of the infant formula.
The Chicago-area pharmaceutical company released its updated list late Sunday. A spot check of the two lists revealed that the new list eliminated three apparent duplicate lot numbers and added the one new item.
An Abbott spokesman did not immediately return calls to the company.
