Belgium’s seven nuclear reactors generate 54 percent of its electricity. Belgium had planned to start phasing out its nuclear power program by 2015, but in 2009, the government committed to keep nuclear power plants open for another decade until 2025. Its leading nuclear power producer, Electrabel, pledged in 2009 to devote $740 million to renewable energy sources.
