3. Deduct your moving expenses

If you started a new job last year that required you to move, you can deduct your moving expenses as long as your new job is at least 50 miles away from your old home. You must have worked full time for at least 39 weeks during the first year that you lived in the new area.

Transportation and storage of your belongings can be deductible, too – even pets and cars count. The cost of transportation and lodging while you’re moving is also deductible. You just can’t count meals along the way.
