Winter Coat Sale

Store: Amazon
Discount: 75% off select items
Shipping: Free shipping via Prime
Expires: November 30
Is It Worth It?: Usually the best discounts on coats come in January and February, as stores start offering clearance-level prices on current season apparel. But Amazon is breaking all the rules and slashing 75% off a variety of styles from major brands, like Calvin Klein, Kenneth Cole, Tommy Hilfiger, and Nautica. Now would be the ideal time to replace your failing puffer coat, as most styles feature down-like insulation.

Express Women's Clearance Sale

Store: Express
Discount: Extra 60% off in-cart
Shipping: $8 s&h or get free shipping on $50 orders
Expires: November 30
Is It Worth It?: You better hurry if you want to take advantage of the strongest extra discount we've ever seen for clearance items at Express; this sale ends today. We highly recommend the pictured Express Women's Snakeskin Print Halter Slip Dress for $20 ($68 off), or the simple — and easy to pull off — Express Women's Linen Flutter Sleeve T-Shirt for $6 ($29 off), both with prices after the in-cart discount.

PacSun Cyber Weekend Sale

Store: PacSun
Discount: 30% off via coupon code "EARLYCM"
Shipping: Free shipping
Is It Worth It?: Unfortunately this discount doesn't apply to sale items, but despite that, it's still the best percent-off sale we've seen from PacSun this year. Shop for casual skater-chic essentials like the picturedVolcom Men's Pulli Pullover Hoodie for $38.46 (a low by $20) or the LA Hearts Women's T-Shirt Dress for $23.06 ($10 off), both with prices after the discount.

Calvin Klein Outlet Sale

Store: Calvin Klein Outlet
Discount: 50% Off sitewide
Shipping: Free shipping
Expires: December 1
Is It Worth It?: Get the effortless, understated chic look of Calvin Klein at a fraction of the price while the designer slashes 50% off everything in its already-discounted outlet store. (Prices are as marked.) This is the best discount we've ever seen from Calvin Klein Outlet, so now is the time to stock up.

Lucky Brand Jeans Black Friday Weekend Sale

Store: Lucky Brand
Discount: 40% off sitewide
Shipping: Free shipping
Is It Worth It?: Another store cutting out the "middle man coupon," doing the work for you by slashing the price on everything from the get-go. While we saw a similar discount from Lucky Brand in September, the store won't go any lower than this. And who couldn't use more denim?

What is the Monitor difference? Tackling the tough headlines – with humanity. Listening to sources – with respect. Seeing the story that others are missing by reporting what so often gets overlooked: the values that connect us. That’s Monitor reporting – news that changes how you see the world.

Dear Reader,

About a year ago, I happened upon this statement about the Monitor in the Harvard Business Review – under the charming heading of “do things that don’t interest you”:

“Many things that end up” being meaningful, writes social scientist Joseph Grenny, “have come from conference workshops, articles, or online videos that began as a chore and ended with an insight. My work in Kenya, for example, was heavily influenced by a Christian Science Monitor article I had forced myself to read 10 years earlier. Sometimes, we call things ‘boring’ simply because they lie outside the box we are currently in.”

If you were to come up with a punchline to a joke about the Monitor, that would probably be it. We’re seen as being global, fair, insightful, and perhaps a bit too earnest. We’re the bran muffin of journalism.

But you know what? We change lives. And I’m going to argue that we change lives precisely because we force open that too-small box that most human beings think they live in.

The Monitor is a peculiar little publication that’s hard for the world to figure out. We’re run by a church, but we’re not only for church members and we’re not about converting people. We’re known as being fair even as the world becomes as polarized as at any time since the newspaper’s founding in 1908.

We have a mission beyond circulation, we want to bridge divides. We’re about kicking down the door of thought everywhere and saying, “You are bigger and more capable than you realize. And we can prove it.”

If you’re looking for bran muffin journalism, you can subscribe to the Monitor for $15. You’ll get the Monitor Weekly magazine, the Monitor Daily email, and unlimited access to CSMonitor.com.
