Talk to the Editor: Southeast Asia security(Read article summary)
Join us for an update from the Monitor's Simon Montlake on the Filipino battle against Muslim insurgents -- as well as on Sri Lanka after the government's defeat of the Tamil Tigers.
Join us Thursday at 1 pm EST for a conversation with Simon Montlake, who covers Southeast Asia for the Monitor. Simon has just returned from The Philippines, where the government has been fighting a long-running battle with the Abu Sayyif guerrillas. He also has been in Sri Lanka, where the Tamil Tiger movement was defeated last year and the majority Sinhalese have consolidated control over the island.
Simon joins Monitor editor John Yemma to answer your questions. What, if any, are the ties between Muslim guerrillas in The Philippines (and other Southeast Asian nations) and al-Qaeda? Is Sri Lanka at long last at peace, or are the Tamils merely regrouping?
