California wildfires north of Los Angeles partially contained

California wildfires that have burned 30 homes and threatened over 100 more are partially contained, according to firefighting officials.

Firefighters say they've partially surrounded a wildfire north of Los Angeles that has burned at least 30 homes and is threatening about 150 others.

The blaze 10 miles south of Tehachapi (tuh-HATCH'-uh-pee) is one of two in mostly rural Kern County that have forced about 2,300 people to evacuate homes.

County fire Engineer Dustin Allegranza says the fire near Tehachapi is 25 percent contained Wednesday morning. It has burned about 1,400 acres, or more than 2 square miles.

The fire erupted Tuesday about 70 miles north of Los Angeles and threatens the entire town of Old West Ranch in the eastern foothills of the Tehachapi Mountains.

Another fire in Sequoia National Forest has burned eight homes and six outbuildings, but no other homes are in immediate danger. It's about 15,600 acres, or about 24 square miles, and is only 5 percent surrounded.
