Controversial video games

The Doom series: The series that popularized first-person shooter games has never been a stranger to controversy. Since the release of Doom in 1993, the game has been called a 'murder simulator', criticized for supposed demonic undertones, and scapegoated by some following the 1997 Columbine school shooting after it was revealed that the shooting's perpetrators were players. Here, Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) holds the game while discussing violence on Fox News in 1999.
