A mother prays for her child's success in college entrance exams during a special service at a Buddhist temple in Seoul. Acceptance into a prestigious university in South Korea is highly sought-after, resulting in students beginning preparations for these entrance exams from a very early age and often studying up to 16 hours a day for years. About 712,000 high school seniors and graduates began taking the government-sponsored College Scholastic Ability Test on Thursday throughout the nation.
