(Read caption) Street Fighter X Tekken is expected to be released sometime next year. In the meantime, you'll have to make due with a video and some screenshots. Here, Ken from the Street Fighter franchise gets smacked around by Bob, from the Tekken series.

Street Fighter X Tekken – pronounced Street Fighter "cross" Tekken, apparently – is slated for a 2012 launch, which as might as well be next century for a certain breed of video gamer. But take solace! This week, Capcom released a new trailer for Street Fighter X Capcom, and although the game is clearly far from complete, the video should be enough to tide over fans of both the Tekken and Street Fighter franchises.

Some back story: Last year, Capcom confirmed that Ryu and Chun-Li from the Street Fighter franchise and Kazuya and Nina Williams from Tekken would be included in the Street Fighter X Tekken line-up. The game is at least partially team-based, allowing users to pair characters from both series, and send them off into a maelstrom of flying fists and fireballs.

The new trailer features a range of new faces, including Ken, Abel, and Guile from Street Fighter and King, Bob, and Marduk from Tekken. More names are likely to be released in coming months.

"We think this opens up some pretty interesting teammate possibilities," jokes Joystiq's Griffin McElroy. "Like, can you imagine a more terrifying fighting force than one that includes an army guy who can punch through the sound barrier and another guy who replaced his own head with a jaguar head? We cannot." (For neophytes to either franchise, McElroy is referring to Guile and King, respectively.)
