Earth Day on Google: Can you find all of the hidden wildlife?
Google has a new doodle for its home page today with an interactive Earth Day animation displaying the wonders of wildlife. Hover over parts of the doodle with your computer mouse and you'll discover the characters come to life.
Can you spot all the animals hiding in the rain forest?
Panda bears: The panda's may be easy to spot but roll your mouse over each of them and you'll see one sneeze and the other give a little laugh.
Lion: The lion seems disturbed by this and wakes from a slumber, giving a roar and wag of the tail.
Parrot: The red bird flies up out of a leftward tree. Don't blink! It'll swoop away fast.
Penguin: There are two penguins near the back. One jumps off the rock and onto the river. Oh, and there she is again, ready for another dive.
Yellow fish: The fish jumps up and swims and swims up the waterfall. But he's in store for a surprise.
Bear: The bear makes his appearance when he gets hungry, and grabs the fish as it swims to the top of the waterfall. Yummy!
Frog: The frog in the bottom right corner leaps and jumps off out of sight.
Koala: The koala is hiding somewhere in the trees. Do you see him?
Butterflies: Almost missed seeing the butterflies? They are hidden in the rightmost trees.
Every year since 1970, April 22nd has been commemorated as Earth Day, since its inception by founder Sen. Gaylord Nelson (D) of Wisconsin, after he traveled with President John F. Kennedy on his 5-day, eleven-state Conservation Tour in 1963. Since then countries all over the world participate in Earth Day activities and protests. The environmental activist group Greenpeace is trying to get large companies like Apple and Facebook to reduce the use of coal by building custom data centers that are powered by as much renewable energy as possible, according to a report Greenpeace released earlier this week.
One Earth Day website has a campaign to encourage individuals to "Pledge an Act, Save Our Planet." You can pledge to use energy efficient light bulbs, shop with reusable cloth grocery bags, or take shorter showers to conserve water. Those are all ways to live a greener life. This is the third Google Doodle of the month, they celebrated the first human in space, Yuri Gagarin, and what would have been Charlie Chaplin's 122nd birthday.
