Atlantic Farewell

A poem by Elizabeth Mata.

All summer she saved us
from the heat's languor
with shuddering cold mirth,
then sent us squealing
with delight to snuggle
warm sand valleys until
we called for mercy again.
We leave reluctantly
as gulls wipe our salty
tears from the rocks.
