Naked Cowboy for president: Top celebrities (past and present) who aimed for the White House

Forget the midterm elections, President Obama's competition in the 2012 election is growing.

On Oct. 6 Robert Burck announced his candidacy for president for the 2012 elections. You know him better as the "Naked Cowboy," a famous New York City attraction in Times Square. Burck's announcement comes on the heels of another celeb gone potential presidential candidate: Donald Trump.

Donald Trump, in a round of TV interviews Tuesday, said he was "seriously" considering running for president in 2012. "For the first time in my life, I'm actually thinking about it," Trump, who declared himself a Republican, told Fox News Channel.

Though they are the most recent, Burck and Trump are by no means the first celebrities to aim for the White House.

6. Jesse Ventura - 2008, 2012

President Barack Obama vs. a former professional wrestler in 2012? Jesse "The Body" Ventura, a former professional wrestler, Navy veteran, and actor has been quoted as saying in 2004, "Maybe we need to put a wrestler in the White House?" As athletic as Obama is, this would be an interesting match up.

Any hope for a legitimate bid from Ventura for the White House is unlikely, though his fans continue to want him to pursue the office. A website from the 2008 election, voters4ventura.com, had a petition to sign to show your support of Ventura who "has tossed around the idea of running for office." The site also features a campaign poster of Ventura as Uncle Sam saying, "I am NOT your Uncle Sammy!"

Ventura's memoirs from 2008, "Don't Start the Revolution Without Me!" ends with a series of fictitious newspaper articles featuring him as a 2008 independent presidential candidate.

And 2012? There are rumblings of a potential third-party candidate in the 2012 race for the White House and his name is still being tossed around.

Ventura previously served as Minnesota's governor from 1999-2003.
