Iowa plane crash kills one person, near Milford in northwest Iowa. Reports say that the plane was flying from Minnesota to Amarillo, Texas.

One person has died in the crash of a small plane near Milford in northwest Iowa.

The Iowa State Patrol tells KTIV-TV that the single-engine plane crashed about 3 p.m. Wednesday in southern Dickinson County. One person was found dead at the crash site.

Police didn't release his name until relatives could be notified.

One area resident says he heard a plane flying low nearby, followed by what sounded like the engine shutting off, then a crash.

The Federal Aviation Administration lists the plane's owner as Geary D. Gearn of Hereford, Texas. KAMR-TV in Amarillo, Texas, reports that the plane was flying from Minnesota to Amarillo.
