Eli Manning and Tom Coughlin will be back, despite Giants missing NFL playoffs
To make the playoffs, the Giants needed help Sunday from the Bears. You see, New York had to beat Washington and then hope Chicago could beat the Packers in Green Bay.
The Giants took care of business, edging the Redskins, 17-14, for their 10th victory of the season. Eli Manning threw for 243 yards and a touchdown in the victory.
Meanwhile, 'Da Bears' played their starters in the final regular season game, despite already having made the playoffs. It wasn't enough, however, as the Packers won, 10-3, and clinched a playoff spot of their own.
For the Giants and their fans, this was a tough one to take. In most seasons, ten wins gets your team into the playoff round. But not for the Giants, not this year. To add insult to injury, the Giants will sit out the playoffs while a team (the Seahawks) with a losing record participates.
After the game, Giants CEO John Mara said Tom Coughlin would be back as the team's head coach next season. And Mara said that Manning would remain the Giants' QB, despite a season that included 25 interceptions.
But the head coach wasn't talking much about the 2011 season after Sunday's win.
"It hurts. It hurts a lot," Coughlin told Reuters. "You want to be in the playoffs. That's what this thing is all about. It's very, very disappointing."
