Over the long haul, Kentucky leads the way in men's hoops

This season, as is often the case in men's collegiate basketball, the University of North Carolina Tar Heels are loaded. Ranked No. 1 in the polls since before the first game on their schedule , they have set their sights on winning the school's fifth national championship. As consistently strong as North Carolina is, however, another school historically has been even stronger: the University of Kentucky. The Wildcats, who attract the largest home crowds in the nation (averaging 22,554 per game last season), currently are trying to return to glory under second-year head coach Billy Gillispie. Kentucky's .760 winning percentage during the 105 seasons it has had a team is unmatched among schools with 25 years or more of NCAA Division I competition.
