Who is Ratko Mladic? Four key questions answered.

Bosnian Serb military leader Ratko Mladic was arrested Thursday in Serbia, more than a decade after a warrant was issued for his arrest for his involvement in the Bosnian war of the 1990s.

Where has he been hiding?

Mladic lived openly in Belgrade, Serbia, for several years after his indictment by the tribunal, only going on the run after former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic was arrested in 2001. Before Mr. Milosevic’s arrest, Mladic could be spotted dining out in restaurants and in other public places, including soccer matches.

Where he went after he went into hiding is unclear – the BBC reports that some thought he was hiding out in his wartime bunker near Sarajevo, others thought he was in Montenegro, and still others, including the tribunal’s chief prosecutor, thought he was in Belgrade. He was found and arrested in a village in northern Serbia, where he was living under a false name, according to the BBC.
