Japanese should build auto plants in US -- Bayh

Japanese car manufacturers should be required to build plants in the United States or face stiff import restrictions, Sen. Birch Bayh (D) of Indiana said Monday. "Last year Japanese cars made up 26 percent of US auto sales, and American automakers have been laying off employees because sales are dropping. . . . Foreign governments, the Japanese for example, place strict limits on the number of American cars they are willing to import," he noted.
