Exploring the cay

How long it will take to return should merely depend on how long it took us to walk here We have no watches And new factors pertain It's not the same way Tide now covers the beach swept our dinghy to sea We must bear inland But convolute skulls of ancient brain coral point no directions All paths present problems angular rocks overgrown cacti migrating crabs untamed lilies Worried you choose a seemingly more traveled trail to a barnacled cove without exit No rainwater here Only crystals of surf and nectar of oleanders Dark drops soon in the tropics Banyans strangle the moon mangroves devour the stars We edge through thick spiky leaves scattering lizards spiralling up from sea all night long
