A Carter-Kennedy patch-up? You'd never know it from the brickbats flying around. Carter campaign manager Robert Strauss tells reporters: "I look forward to the time when Senator Kennedy campaigns for the President." But Kennedy just keeps flailing away in Ohio and California.

The same day Strauss was talking about possible Kennedy support, the senator accused Carter of cloistering himself in the White House for six months under the guise of patriotism. "He turned the greatest asset of the American people -- their love of country -- to his electoral gain," Kennedy said in Cleveland.

Carter supporters have postponed the Democratic platform hearings a week -- from June 5 to June 12. This should allow more time after the June 3 primaries for dust to settle in the Kennedy-Carter struggle.m
