The last two American reporters working in Iran fled to italy last Friday to avoid probable arrest and imprisonment at the hands of the Islamic revolutionary committees, the Washington Post reported.
Jay Ross of the Washington Post and Doyle McManus of the Los Angeles Times joined three British television newsmen on a flight to Rome. They had all been arrested at least once in the last two weeks and accused of working against Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini's Islamic revolution, Mr. Ross said. The Foreign Ministry told Mr. Ross and Mr. McManus their safety could not be guaranteed.
Only a few Western journalists remain in Iran, and they operate under severe restrictions, Mr. Ross said.
