Auto worker goes on trial charged as ex-Nazi guard

The US government has demanded that a suburban auto worker accused of being a sadistic guard at two Nazi death camps in Poland be stripped of his American citizenship for lying to obtain entrance to the United States. Prosecutors said they would present extensive evidence showing John Demjanjuk, a Ukrainian immigrant, served the Nazis as a guard known as "Ivan the Terrible" at two extermination camps for several years during World War II. Mr. Demjanjuk went on trial in US District Court in a case that could lead to his deportation
