Faulty chemical weapons being destroyed by US

The United States is destroying its defective and leaking chemical weapons but will not get rid of its total stockpile until the Soviet Union does, Pentagon officials said. The move marks the start of a 10-year program, estimated to cost some $3 billion eventually, to destroy tons of stockpiled chemical weapons stored at six sites in the US.

But at the same time, the new administration has budgeted $20 million to begin production of an advanced and leakproof nerve gas ar tillery shell known as a binary munition.
