Coke to aid black areas; 'rights' boycott called off

Coca-Cola Company executives agreed to funnel more than $30 million into black businesses and communities and in return, Operation PUSH, headed by the Rev. Jesse Jackson, promised to end its short-lived boycott of Coke products.

The agreements calls for a $1.8 million fund to provide loans for potential black investors, establishment of 32 black-owned distributorships, doubling of advertising in black-owned news media, and increased banking activity in minority banks. The agreement also calls for the addition of a black to the bo ard of directors within six months.
