US truce an in Korea warns north on missiles

The senior US representative to the Korean Military Armistice Commission warned North Korea it would react against the source of any future missile attacks against its US SR-71 reconnaissance planes.

Adm. James Storms said the North fired a missile at an unarmed Blackbird plane on a routine reconnaissance mission in international airspace on Aug. 26. The missile exploded behind and above the plane, he said. Had the unarmed aircraft been destroyed, the Korean Peninsula would have been brought to the brink of a major confrontation, he added. The chief North Korean delegate said the United States had invented the missile incident as a pretext for starting a new Korean war.
