Still more cuts sought, Treasury secretary says

President Reagan seeks still deeper cuts in government social programs, Treasury Secretary Donald Regan says. Congress has already cut back on federal welfare and health spending this year. But President Reagan, faced with higher-than-expected budget deficits, is seeking new ways to slash spending.

Mr. Regan did not say how much spending would be reduced, but the Washington Post reported that the administration is weighing cuts of up to $9.3 billion in welfare and health programs - which would be on top of the more than $3 billion Congress cut last summer.
