A new campaign tactic from Texas Rebublicans: jazzy primary ballots.

Republicans are trying to lure voters into their primary. The theory is that those who vote in the GOP primary are more likely to stay with the party in November.

The lure: controversial ballot issues. Gun control, gambling, blue laws, and punishing drunken drivers are among the topics Texas GOP primary participants will be able to vote on. They'll all be nonbinding referenda - just guidance to the party.

More strategy: Drawing conservative Democrats into the GOP primary could help liberals win in Democratic primaries. And liberals are vulnerable candidates in conservative Texas.
