Indonesia awaits votes after stormy campaign

Counting began Tuesday night in Indonesia's general election after a quiet ending to an occasionally violent six-week electoral campaign. There were no reports of trouble in the capital or major provincial cities. Most shops in Jakarta were closed, and convoys of troops and armored cars patrolled the nearly deserted streets as voters cast their ballots. At stake are 364 seats in the 460 -member lower house, the People's Representation Council.
