Reagan wants ex-reporter for high post at State

President Reagan said he will nominate Richard Burt, a State Department defense expert, as assistant secretary of state for European affairs.

If confirmed by the Senate, Mr. Burt will succeed Lawrence S. Eagleburger, who held the post until recently and is now serving as undersecretary of state for political affairs. Mr. Burt, a former New York Times reporter who covered foreign policy and defense issues, is now director of the State Department's Bureau of Politico-Military Affairs.
