Monitor chosen NE newspaper of year

The New England Newspaper Association has designated The Christian Science Monitor as New England Newspaper of the Year for 1982, among daily newspapers with circulation over 70,000.

In making the award, the judges had this to say about the Monitor:

''Coverage of the arts uniformly excellent and accessible to the average reader.''

''Superb staff photos effectively used to enhance writing throughout the -paper.''

- The Daily Transcript, Dedham, Mass. - for daily newspaper under 12,000 circulation.

- Nashua Telegraph, Nashua, N.H. - for dailies with circulation between 12, 001 and 30,000.

- Lawrence Eagle--Tribune, Lawrence, Mass. - for dailies with circulation between 30,001 and 70,000.

- The Advocate, Stamford, Conn. - for Sunday papers with circulation under 70 ,000.

- Providence Journal, Providence, R.I. - for Sunday paper with circulation over 70,000.
