FBI upheld by court in Abscam operation

The Supreme Court let stand the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Abscam operation, a controversial undercover investigation of bribery and political corruption.

In other action, the court ruled that political parties in Puerto Rico have the right to fill their own interim vacancies in Puerto Rico's legislature.

The court also agreed to decide whether a narcotics agent at an airport could , without a warrant, hold the luggage of a suspected drug smuggler to have it sniffed by a specially trained dog.

It said it would decide whether US Customs agents had the power to board foreign vessels on inland waterways.
