In periods of silence, the buzz of a little fly's wings was audible as he spiralled upward above the congregation in the vast cathedral. Unseen except at times his wings catching the upflung light of gently swaying lamps glistened like silver. Sometimes he faltered, sensing ill will. Finally he reached and was lost in the lofty shadows of the nave.
