Haig tempers criticism of Reagan peace plan

Former Secretary of State Alexander Haig said President Reagan's Mideast peace plan was good in concept, but efforts to carry it out so far have been ''a disaster.''

Haig appeared Wednesday to soften criticism he expressed in a speech to United Jewish Appeal officials in New York Tuesday. He had received a standing ovation from them, after saying that a review of the Camp David accord showed Israel had never agreed to cease settling the West Bank and that the US should not now inject the settlements issue into the Camp David process.
