Islamic group at impasse in effort to end Gulf war

A peace mission representing the Islamic Conference said its efforts to end the 25-month-old Gulf war were deadlocked, and Iranian President Sayed Ali Khamenei described its revised peace plan as unsatisfactory.

The chairman of the committee, Guinean President Ahmed Sekou Toure, was quoted by the Saudi Arabian newspaper Okaz as saying the committee was deadlocked and could not continue mediation efforts. The committee held talks here Sunday to make a final assessment of Saturday's attempts to interest Tehran and Baghdad in a revised peace plan.
