US reportedly plans to set up Honduras camp

The US plans to establish a camp in neighboring Honduras to train Salvadorean government troops, the New York Times reported. Congress has limited the number of US advisers in El Salvador, but the limit apparently would not affect advisers in Honduras. Final details weren't worked out, but the base was expected to be operating in about two months, official sources were quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, left-wing rebels renewed their offensive in El Salvador, attacking a small town near the rebel stronghold of Guazapa Volcano. The attack was part of an offensive launched in retaliation for last week's assassination of one of the rebel leaders in Nicaragua, Melida Anaya Montes.
